AYURVEDA

I am an Ayurvedic practitioner in training! An Ayurvedic practitioner considers the *whole* human being, believing that people have within them the required energy to bring the body back to a healthy, balanced state. Ayurvedic practitioners have specific training in Eastern medicine, pathology, disease management, and preventive healthcare methods.

WHAT IS AYURVEDA?

Ayurveda is a natural system of medicine that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The term Ayurveda translates into "knowledge of life" and is based on the idea that disease is due to an imbalance or stress in a person's consciousness. Ayurveda encourages certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to restore the individual balance between mind, body and spirit.

WHY IS AYURVEDA IMPORTANT?

Ayurveda blends our modern lifestyle and health-oriented habits with the ancient wisdom of using natural substances, medicines and herbs to help us lead a healthy, happy, stress-free and disease-free life.

WHAT ARE SOME AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS?

HERBS AND HERBAL FORMULAS

The Ayurvedic administration of herbs is considered a precise science, requiring deep knowledge of plants and their effect on human physiology, biochemistry, and psychology.

DIET AND NUTRITION

Ayurvedic diet and nutrition practices are vital to healthy living, and are important components of treatment, recovery, and disease management. Dietary practices are tailored to each individual's constitution, with six primary "tastes" forming the basis of recommendations:

  • Sweet: promotes strength and nourishes all tissues

  • Sour: stimulates digestive power

  • Salty: maintains water electrolyte balance

  • Pungent: improves digestion and absorption

  • Bitter: stimulates all other tastes

  • Astringent: helps in absorption
