Chocolate shakes (chocolate ice cream, really) was always my favorite childhood dessert. So being able to turn a classic favorite into something just as delicious but with nutritional value, has been a game changer for my sweet tooth.
It should be known that there is a debate in the nutrition world about smoothies and your digestion. The main concern being drinking anything cold won't really help move the digestive system along, especially if it's already sluggish. For this reason, I don't drink smoothies every day, but when I do I'm happy knowing that the nutrients and antioxidants I consume will benefit my skin greatly, and my body in other ways. Here's one of my fav chocolate shake recipes I drink on repeat post-workout...
1 scoop chocolate protein powder of choice (I use Sprout Living)
1 tbsp cacao powder
1/3 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 frozen banana
1/4 cup rolled oats
1- 1 1/2 cup nut milk of choice
3 ice cubes
1 tbsp ground flax
1 tbsp chia seeds
Handful of spinach/mixed greens
Unsweetened coconut flakes
Grain-free cinnamon O's (Trader Joes)
